The Heineken tradition starts on the 15th of February 1864, when Gerard Adriaan Heineken buys the Heystack brewery in Amsterdam.

Among the first prized that proves the company and its products value is the one obtained at the world fair in 1889, when Heineken won the Grand Prix Diploma.

In 1914 Henry Pierre Heineken took over the company and in 1928 Heineken made the first steps towards an international unique publicity, becoming the exclusive beer supplier for the Olympic Games in Amsterdam. Under Henry’s lead, Heineken became out of a national company, an international organization, in 1931 building the foundation of the first brewery outside Holland’s territories, Malayan Breweries.

Alfred Heineken, the next member of the family that ran the organization was the on that build the basis of a long successful publicity campaign series, Heineken becoming one of the most powerful brands all over the world.

After Alfred’s death in 2002, his daughter Charlene de Carvallho- Heineken continues the family’s tradition by getting involved in the lead of the company.

Today, Heineken is the main beer producer in Europe and the 3rd one in the world beer producer’s top. Heineken produced over 170 product varieties with local taste and flavor, these being present I almost every country around the world.

Heineken Romania counts around 1500 employees with the most diverse product portfolio on the Romanian market, covering all the market’s segments: Heineken, Zipfer, Gbsser, Schlossgold, Silva, Ciuc, Golden Brau, Bucegi, Gambrinus, Harghita, Haţegana.  The acquisition of Bere Mures in 2008, brought into the Heineken Romania’s portfolio one of the most known brand on the market- the Neumarkt brand.

A novelty of the year 2009 is the introduction into the local market, of the Edelweiss brand starting with March, this product being a special imported beer, unfiltered, which comes into the completion of the company’s portfolio.
