Romanian beer market
In 2007, the size of the Romanian beer market was approx 19 million hectolitres with a per capita consumption of 89 litres. The main sources of growth were the increased disposable income, the extension of the consumer offer and the exceptional weather.
The PET segment reported the biggest volume growth, 32.4% compared to 2006. For the full year 2007, the market share of the PET segment was 44.4%, while the glass bottle segment had a market share of 42.5% (AC Nielsen 2007). This is mainly due to the convenience of this package is offering for the consumer and to the new product introductions in the pack type.
In 2007, Heineken Romania launched a Premium Pack (PET) for a brand in the International Premium segment: Gösser. The launching of this high quality premium package represented the landmark for the beginning of a new phase in the Romanian beer market development and makes the advantages of this type of package available for the international premium beer consumers.
For 2008, we estimate that the beer market will continue to grow, but at a lower rate than the last three years.

Heineken Romania is the leading brewer on the Romanian beer market. The brands portfolio offered by Heineken Romania covers all segments of the market: Heineken, Zipfer (import), Gösser, Schlossgold, Silva, Ciuc, Golden Brau, Bucegi, Gambrinus, Harghita and Hategana.
